Matt Boland - Guitar

Matt is a native of New York state where he stuided guitar with Nate Vecchio from boyhood until he went to Berklee College of Music in 1980. There he studied classical and jazz guitar performance under some of the most renown instructors there such as John Wilkins and Jon Damian. After graduating from Berklee, Matt performed with local rock bands such as Emerald City and Plan-B. He's more recently played and recorded with Traditional American/Roots musicians such as renowned Berklee cellist Liz Davis Maxfield and collaborated with many others from all over New England. He is currently the guitarist for Latin/Jazz vocalist Carolina Chacin and her group Vida Vibrante. Matt has been a side-man with local jazz groups such as Bopkick and The Metrowest Jazz Project. He was also the guitarist in the jazz band Free Fall founded by drummer Jack Morash. Their musical friendship has continued for several years and when Matt founded the trio in the early summer of 2012 after doing a jazz session with David Sakurai, he of course asked Jack to play drums and The Matt Boland Trio was born.










David Sakurai - Bass

David, a veteran bass player of 30-plus years first started playing as a teenager when he met many great music teachers at Madison Park High School who inspired his musical development. David was accepted to Berklee College of Music in 1979 and studied electric bass, composition, arranging, performance and professional music eventually earning his Bachelor of Music degree. During his time at Berklee, David performed around Boston in many local jazz venues as well as with many Boston rock bands. David currently studies Acoustic Bass with Mark Carlsen and Clasical Bass with Richard Ripani and has studied with some of the greatest musicians in the Boston area including Jerry Bergonzi, Bruce Gertz, the late John Neves, John Reppucci, and Whit Brown. David currently enjoys playing with local Jazz artist as much as possible. David joined The Matt Boland Trio in the summer of 2012 and also plays with Public Eyes and sits in as a 'first call bassist' on many sessions.











Jack Morash – Drums

Jack is a 25 year veteran of the drums playing for years with local jazz acts such as The Jim Kangas X-tet, The Wildewood Jazz Quartet, The Sleepless Knights, New Jazz Echo, BopKick and as founder of his own band Free Fall. He's also 'sat in' as a sideman or 'next call drummer' with many other local bands including The Joe McEachern Jazz Band, The Trude Witham Group, Jazz First and The Metro West Jazz Project. Jack has shared his talents in jazz venues all over Massachusetts and New England including The Acton Jazz Café, “Ryles”, Sally O’Brian’s, Main Streets Market and Cafe, Tosca and the Java Room and at numerous events, weddings and festivals. He joined the Matt Boland Trio in the fall of 2012 and hasn't looked back.
